21 It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, 22 and He has identified us as His own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything He has promised us. 2 Corinthians 1: 21-22 NLT
This morning in one of my devotionals, the writer, Lisa Bevere reminded me that God doesn’t HAVE to love me. He IS love!
Because He is love, I cannot STOP Him from loving me.
I think human love has really messed us up because we tend to place those same attributes on God. How silly of us.
I don’t know about you, but people have broken promises to me more times than I care to count. Broken promises lead to mistrust, no trust leads to love being messed up. It’s a vicious cycle.
The reason why I know God doesn’t break promises is because He’s always been faithful. AND because I just read about it in His Word.
The Scripture I posted above is the NLT version. Let me show you the NIV of it.
21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22 set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
God guarantees everything He says because He placed the Holy Spirit in us to seal us and confirm His promises.
Also, backing up to verse 20, we see “20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. “
There is even a worship song I love that says this… Yes and Amen by Housefires
All of God’s promises are YES! We just have to say AMEN to receive them!
What are His promises? They are the things He has said in His Word to us. They are the whispers in our heart from the Holy Spirit.
They are things like He will never leave us or forsake us! OR that NOTHING can pluck us out of His hand!
What promise are you needing to cling to right now?
Find it in His Word, write it down, apply it to your life. Pray it and thank God for it.
If you need prayer, please contact me. I’d love to pray for you.
God bless you today and always!
