13 For example, there was God’s promise to Abraham. Since there was no one greater to swear by, God took an oath in his own name, saying:14 “I will certainly bless you, and I will multiply your descendants beyond number.” Hebrews 6:13-14

I started just picking up my Bible at night before bed and reading wherever it opens. A few weeks ago, I read this and was just floored at the truth of it. Have you ever really thought about God taking an oath and making promises to us?

Dictionary.com defines oath as

solemn appeal to a deity, or to some revered person or thing, to witness one’s determination to speak the truth, to keep promise, etc.:to testify upon oath.

statement or promise strengthened by such an appeal.
formally affirmed statement or promise accepted as an equivalent of an appeal to a deity or to a revered person or thing; affirmation.”
Read the Scripture I posted above. Ok, read it again.
God took an oath and made a promise to Abraham. No one is greater than God, so He took this oath on His own name!
Let me show you the next couple of verses:

“15 Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.

16 Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that oath is binding. 17 God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. 18 So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. 19 This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. 20 Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.”

When God makes a promise to us, He keeps it! He is not a human, He can’t lie.

This should give you hope! This should make your heart sing and fill you with joy!

ALL of God’s promises to us, WILL be fulfilled in His time! It might not be ours. It might not be like we thought it would be…but it will be when He knows we are ready.

If you are walking through a difficult season, take some of God’s promises and know that He will keep them!

  1. God will never leave you or forsake you.
  2. He will send His angels to protect you.
  3. He loves you more than anyone on this planet. So much so that He gave His Son to die for you.
  4. He has a plan for your life and it’s a great plan, not one to harm you.

That’s just a few off the top of my head.

Please pick up the Bible and read about God’s promises. Let it sink into your heart that they are FOR YOU too!

If you need prayer, just ask. I’m always here and honored to pray for you.

God bless you today and always!
