“Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” Proverbs 11: 24-25 NLT
Poverty is a problem that is world wide. It’s not new, people have lived in poverty since Bible times. Some days the thoughts of how bad some nations are is overwhelming. We even have tons of people living in poverty right here in America.
It might seem as if this can never be fixed. I believe it can!
God put the church in place so that WE could end poverty and many other social issues.
Not the government.
Someone just decided that the government should take on people’s needs. The Bible is CLEAR about how we are to treat others.
The way to end poverty is be being generous.
Yes, you read that right. GENEROSITY!
In my devotional book, the author said, “Generosity is a heart change FIRST, and a dollar amount second.. because generosity actually doesn’t even need to be financial in nature. Generosity can be inviting someone over to dinner.”
A few ways and reasons to be generous:
- Sharing our food: Proverbs 22:9 says, “Blessed are those who are generous, because they feed the poor.”
- Sharing water: Jesus stated that if we give food or water to “the least of these”, then we’ve given it to Him. (Matthew 10:42)
- Smile! We can ALL smile, and it just might make someone’s day.
- Pray for someone. If you are doing something and feel an overwhelming nudge to pray… DO IT! As soon as you pray, God goes into action and mountains can be moved by our prayers.
In his book The Veil, Blake K. Healy said, “If there is a spirit of poverty over your city, be generous.”
Being generous DOES NOT mean letting people use you, being a door mat, or enabling folks.
It just means to be generous and do whatever you feel like God is calling you to do.
Some people keep water and snacks in their cars for the homeless. Some people keep extra cash to give them.
Do whatever works for you… just DO IT!
Be generous with your time, talents, skills, and finances. Don’t do it just for the blessing, either. God will bless you, but you must do things with their right heart.
I think we need to release generosity into our cities and let it remove poverty all together!
Who’s with me?
God bless you today and always!
